Adecco completes the recruitment and training of 20,000 volunteers within 18 months
Going for gold: 20,000 volunteers get ready for the XX Olympic Winter Games of Turin 2006
Zurich, Suisse, Oct 24, 2005
In 109 days the XX Olympic Winter Games of Turin 2006 will begin. So that the athletes can excel with thousands of on-site visitors and millions of TV viewers sharing moments of glory, the help of volunteers in running the event is indispensable.
Adecco, the world's leading Human Resource services company, and the Torino Organising Committee (Toroc), are proud to announce that the recruitment of the 20,000 volunteers has been successfully completed. 18 months ago, Adecco was commissioned by Toroc to recruit the volunteers. Since then a team of 35 Adecco recruiters, dedicated solely to the project, reviewed 41,000 applications, conducted 29,000 interviews and finally recruited 20,000 volunteers - 18,000 of them for the Winter Games and 2,000 for the Winter Paralympic Games. The 20,000 volunteers selected were trained in 58 training sessions for jobs ranging from drivers and interpreters to folding the flags of the participating countries.
"With this project we have had the opportunity to showcase our capabilities in bringing together jobs and people for one of the world's biggest events. While the task of selecting 20,000 volunteers is clearly a huge undertaking and particularly challenging from an organisational point of view, we paid great attention to sharing the Olympic spirit by reiterating the importance of each individual volunteer to the organisation and successful functioning of the games", commented Jérôme Caille, CEO of the Adecco Group.
Most of the interviews were performed in person in Turin, however some were conducted in Rome, Milan and Genoa, with the opportunity for international applicants to be comprehensively interviewed over the phone. The volunteers are of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, with the majority coming from Turin and surrounding areas.
The Olympic Adecco office will remain staffed to monitor and coach the volunteers through to the end of the games. The entire recruitment process was supported by management software provided and customized by Adecco, who also drew on experience gathered by recruiting personnel for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the Hanover Expo and the Manchester Commonwealth Games.
